On a recent Sunday, I was scrolling through emails (confession: I have a ridiculous number of email accounts) when that glorious word, Congratulations! caught my eye.
News – from Hardie Grant Egmont, leading children’s publisher – that my middle-grade story had been shortlisted in the Ampersand Prize 2020.
Oh, happy day.
This is what the Hardie Grant website has to say about the prize:
The premier award for debut novelists of middle-grade and young adult books
... We’re on the hunt for brilliant young adult and middle-grade manuscripts by debut authors; from mystery to contemporary to adventure and everything in between, we want your words!
I’m very grateful for the opportunity. Competitions are a way for us wannabe authors to get our manuscripts in front of editors.
