Tasmanian Writers Prize 2018

Exciting news in the Nicola Wardley Reads & Writes journey this week.

My story, Hell’s Gate, received an award in this annual competition. Here’s a link to the article in the Tasmanian Times.

Congratulations to the winner, Melissa Manning from Victoria, for her story Boy, and the other finalists.

The winning stories will be published in an anthology which will be launched at the Tamar Valley Writers Festival, in September.

Hell's Gate began as an assignment for a subject I studied at the University of Queensland in 2017 as part of its postgraduate Writing Editing and Publishing Program. The subject centred on the roles creativity and research play in developing a piece of fiction. We were encouraged to research Old Bailey records as a starting point for ideas, which is where I came across the inspiration for Joseph Lawson, convict.
