NYC Midnight Short Story Competition 2018 - Round 1

Updated: Jun 18, 2018

The results are in: the winner of Heat 31 was my story, Lightning Ridge. Which means (... drum roll ...) in a day and a half I will be emailed a genre, a subject, and a character, and I will have to create a 2000 word short story in 3 days. The original 4000 entrants have been whittled down to 625.

Luckily, I don't have any Easter plans beyond eating fridge-chilled chocky bunnies.

I can't post Lightning Ridge on my blog at this time, as I have entered it into a competition here in Australia. It's genesis was the round 1 prompt of: suspense/brainwashing/rare gem collector. I had 8 days to write a 2500 word story. I went with a bleak, Mad-Max-in-a-plaid-flannel-shirt vibe.
